Resurfacing, Rediscovering
And a repair of sorts
Admittedly, we haven’t been overly productive during these past few weeks. Work, household jobs and the absolute necessities have all felt like enough when it’s been so hot.
But at the weekend (and after a really strong coffee) I decided to go through the larder cupboard. It’s always a much more involved and time consuming process than anticipated, taking up every available surface in the kitchen. But out went lots of (way) past their date jars of herbs and spices.
Other things were decanted into prettier jars, then labelled. I wondered how I’d managed to accrue quite so much caster sugar. Tins, canisters, packets were replaced and neatly arranged.
No new purchases: just sorting and tidying what was already there.
It wasn’t a strenuous task, but it felt rewarding. So much so that I had another coffee and took on the dresser and drawers in the living room. Boxes of random items hastily stored away last autumn in readiness for the kitchen renovation.
There was that pearl of wisdom: if you haven’t utilised - or even remember owning - these kinds of belongings, then you probably don’t need them at all.
